Asking why women commit suicide is a tricky subject. Most people who have been in suicidal states like to preserve their privacy and are reluctant to reveal why they took their lives. However, by asking what leads to a woman’s suicide, we can better pinpoint the mental factors that lead a woman to take over-the-counter (OTC) pills, slit her wrists, or swallow sleeping pills for instant death.
We women can get things done. We’re in charge of raising children, running households and making dinner every night. You might say we never stop running. One may often wonder why women would stop at the height of their careers, at the size of their families lives, when everything was getting good, but then one day, it finally clicks: that’s when the feelings are worse. Every woman has been there. They hate living with constant feelings of dread, fatigue, numbness and hopelessness; with feeling nervous all the time or as if their life has no meaning or purpose; with negative thoughts that wouldn’t leave their head; and with an inability to get rid of the negativity in their lives no matter what they tried.
Many people cannot understand how someone can be so overwhelmed by life that they want to kill themselves; hopefully, sharing some information about depression will break down some of those barriers for them.
UNDERSTANDING WHY WOMEN COMMIT SUICIDE
To understand why women commit suicide and help prevent further tragedy, we must first recognize the symptoms, warning signs and risk factors for suicide in women. These are beyond the traumatic moments that lead up to a suicidal crisis. Women may kill themselves when their husbands leave them – or lose their child; when they suffer abuse at work or at home; when they lose job security, or cannot find any job at all; or when they become dependent on alcohol and pills throughout the day.
As women, we are nurturers, protectors, mothers and wives. We are fragile creatures, yet incredibly strong at the same time. With the proper knowledge and skills, we have the power to prevent suicide from happening.
We seek a life outside the spotlight, yet we are always noticed. And we focus inwardly to reflect on what we want personally and professionally, but we always have the attention of our friends and foes. We contribute to society, but we don’t always get credit. As a woman whose voice is society’s voice, or as a woman whose voice gets silenced by society, we all have a place here.
WOMEN’S LIVES MATTER
It is time to recognize that women’s lives matter and address the violence, vulnerabilities, and needs everywhere.
Women are essential to society because they are half of society. They take care of children and often make sacrifices for their families, sometimes giving up their opportunities for an education or career. Women who enter the workforce can be subjected to gender-based discrimination or sexual harassment. Fortunately, there are laws to protect them from these situations, and some countries now have women in many high positions of power. Women also make up the majority of teachers, nurses and social workers, which are essential to our society.
Women have always played an essential role in our society. Their abilities and tender, caring nature are assets to the betterment of humankind. Their influence will broaden the mind, strengthen the body, quicken the conscience, and exalt the home.
They are the glue that binds society together. They have done what was considered impossible to do, yet they did it. Though some have oppressed them, their free will has not realized their potential.
END SUICIDE
Suicide is something we want to end forever, but how? We live in a world where women are no longer the fair sex but the strong ones. Women are getting stronger and stronger each day, so this shouldn’t be happening. Women shouldn’t kill themselves sometimes for a simple joke about them. W can change this by taking steps to change the world’s perspectives. We can have women feel good about themselves again.
It is hard to fathom why any woman would want to commit suicide. It can be a very long, drawn-out affair that results in nothing but pain for the woman and her family. Suicide has been around for a long time, as have ways to prevent it.
Women should not commit suicide. All women are essential to the survival and growth of modern society. Every mother breathes her body into her children, giving life to a new generation, teaching them what she learns from her elders, and serving as the guardian of their moral character. And every wife keeps a home, maintaining an orderly workspace for her husband and their family, easing him into his day with a smile, and softening the roughness of his work with the grace of her gentle touch. Every woman gives something unique to this world; we need those special things to make it beautiful.
PREVENTION OF SUICIDE
The primary barrier to preventing female suicidal behavior is the idea that suicide is a male problem and an overemphasis on individual causes at the expense of social, economic, and cultural concerns. This is exacerbated further by the dearth of women-specific suicide research. Significant progress in preventing female suicide behavior may need a paradigm change in which the emphasis is shifted from individual to ecological issues. Education, economic security, and women’s empowerment should all be incorporated into a suicide prevention approach.
It is critical to implement the prohibition of forced marriages, dowry, and underage marriage strictly in nations where these are prevalent. Reduced intimate partner violence will result in a decrease in female suicidality. Without sexual abuse, female suicide attempts would decline by 28% over a lifetime, compared to 7% for men. Additional solutions would be to diminish media portrayals of women who commit suicide as a result of interpersonal problems and to strengthen women’s capacity to cope with interpersonal and intergenerational conflicts.
CONCLUSION
Women of all ages consider suicide every year. Sometimes, it’s because they are depressed or unhappy with their life. Other times, it’s a way to escape abuse or trauma. While you may have questions about why more women commit suicide than men, remember that thoughts of suicide are not the same thing as a plan to kill yourself. If you feel like hurting yourself or believe that you might hurt yourself, please seek help. You can ask a friend for help or call a suicide hotline.
What do you think can we, as a society do to decrease the suicide rate?
