Nobody can harm you unless you give them permission. What occurs to us does not damage us. It is our reaction that causes us pain.
Abraham Lincoln’s father was a shoemaker when he became President of the United States. And, as expected, the election of a shoemaker’s son as President outraged egoistic individuals.
On the first day, as Abraham Lincoln entered the chamber to deliver his inaugural address, one rich guy rose up in the center. He told Lincoln not to forget that his father made shoes for the family of the rich guy.
And the entire Senate chuckled, thinking they had made a mockery of Abraham Lincoln. However, some folks are formed of different stuff.
Lincoln looked the guy in the eyes and said that Lincoln knew that his father made shoes for the guy’s family. Lincoln also said there will be many other people like the rich guy for whom his father made shoes as nobody else could.
His shoes were more than simply shoes; he poured his heart and soul into them. I’d want to know if you have any complaints. Because I know how to build my own shoes.
If you have a problem, I can manufacture you a new pair of shoes.
But, as far as I know, no one has ever objected to my father’s shoes.
He was a genius, a brilliant inventor, and I am proud of my father”.
The Senate as a whole was stunned. They didn’t know what type of man Abraham Lincoln was. He was proud of his father because he did his work well, with zeal, passion, and precision.
It makes no difference what you do. What counts is that you do it on your own will, with your own vision, and with your own love. Then everything you touch turns to gold.
This story shows that ships never sink because of the water outside them, but because of the water that gets within them. Don’t allow what’s going on around you to consume you and drag you down.
