It’s going to happen soon. Disenchantment’s going to set in at the grassroots level. The iron of bitterness at having been betrayed will enter their souls. After having been used for all the dirty work. The fires of hate and insecurity and communalism they set and fanned in the country will come back to burn their own. The realization that they are mindless minions. That they’ve been had by their political masters whose specialty is gluttony for power and riches and not the leadership of the country. It will come to them that they are small change among dirty notes. And not to be counted or taken seriously when the spoils of this dirty game are being appropriated.
To do and Die
Disillusionment will turn to disappointment. Disappointment to anger. And anger to revolution. They will learn the hard way that they are nothing more than a voice, a flag, and a vote. To pull them out of a dusty drawer only at the time of elections. Then put back and forgotten. And their blind devotion and unquestioned service translate only to more influence and resources for their greedy anti-people leaders. That they mean nothing to nobody at the top. Their helping the unprincipled to win does not mean better healthcare, further education, more jobs, unlimited water and electricity and rations, security for their women. It means nothing. They were used.
The rancor will manifest when they find they are alone despite belonging to the largest party. When they see that they are as vulnerable to Covid as the man from the other party and faith. When they realize that the virus plays no party favorites. It spares no community. And when they cry disconsolately over those of theirs that died for want of oxygen, medicines, or a hospital bed while they were busy provoking passions in another state instead of pushing their leaders to do what was needed for the country. When they understand that the hue of their political patronage is the color that the country’s burning. And that they fuelled these fires.
