I don’t carry a wallet. Pickpockets notoriously target people who do. I keep currency notes in the front pocket of my trousers. Coins in the back. And I have never been robbed.
I have a trusty leather pouch that’s home to my essential everyday items: my debit card, PAN card, Aadhar card, visiting cards, driving license, and a few passport-size photographs. It’s my go-to pouch for when I need to be on the go and still have everything I need at my fingertips. It also has a tiny Ganpati.
I do not remember where I got it from. But it has been with me for a long time. The Ganpati is so little, that it gets lost in the palm of my hand. It is made of clay. A quarter of an inch big. It offers me a sense of protection and of well-being.
I am a Ganpati bhakt. I believe He is the God of Blessings. And the Remover of Obstacles. His presence gives me comfort. I don’t think the size of your Ganpati idol matters. It’s not the size of your wallet that matters, but the depth of your faith. Every time I reach into my pocket, I’m reminded of this.
Meanwhile…
May Lord Ganesh give you
A rainbow for every storm
A smile for every tear
A promise for every fear
And an answer to every prayer
Sukh-karta dukh-harta varta vignachi!
Wishing you and yours a blessed Ganeshotsav!
