I cannot tell you the hour she left, not the words last she spoke, if
any, and if there were an utterance, it would
have been barely above
a whisper.
I do remember the look in her eyes as she lay gasping for that
last breath, the coloring of her long-stemmed rose placed
gently within her hand.
I wonder if she felt its prick, I remember the look whenever she
placed a boutique of roses within her favorite
crystalline vase.
Should I have kept the memory? It brought a tear to my eyes.
It was a cold, cloudy, dreary day and I know she would have loved
it was far better if it were warm and sunny, but I never could control
the weather, wishing I could have
that day.
Words written within her epitaph; I stood trembling as I read them
while tracing a tear streaming down her cheek which had been
chiseled into her tombstone.
