I perceived her to be a stranger within a crowd. A solitary one
preferring to remain alone and aloof,
but had not yet grown accustomed to her loneliness…–If one
could relate to her reclusiveness.
I did find it peculiar,
though,
in the manner she surrounded herself with those she did not
know. Perhaps she thought of them as being protective
shield of some sort, a defense
mechanism,
if the need ever arose.
Regardless.
–There are those who felt it odd, the manner she portrayed
herself.
I do admit I did enjoy her companionship on occasion,
what was more than a rarity, our conversations
which lasted for
hours
until the darkness faded into oblivion into the sunlight at
dawn. Was also when her warmth faded away
within her touch.
I regretted it whenever she grew distant. Realising she had
reached her limits, regressing into who she was
previously, which I admit, I did find
rather perplexing.
I have kept it without regret. Referring to a plethora of memories
and moments, if I were to further
describe…
The words she had written within a perfumed letter, the tears
she had wept leaving their tracing on the pages
I had read.
I regret the weathered pages, yellowed, worn, and torn, as they
were, although there remains a faint lavender scent,
a memory I find most
intense.
I weep whenever I breathe in its fragrance. Am I to inquire if I
am less of a man, clinging to the remembrance of
her scent in the manner which
I do.
–There are matters of the heart which are not easily to rid of.
