Humanity Vs Lifestyle
The lesson of the old egg seller
A Facebook member tells the story of a rich woman who one day went to the market because her maid had taken ill. She saw an old egg seller and asked him, “How much are you selling eggs for?” The old egg seller replied, “For 60 rupees a dozen, Madam.” In a no-nonsense tone, the rich woman said, “I will buy them for 50 rupees or I will leave.” The old egg seller replied, “Come, take them at the price you want. Maybe this is a good beginning because I have not been able to sell even a single egg today.”
The rich woman took the eggs feeling she had won. She got into her fancy car and went to a posh restaurant with her friend. There, they ordered whatever they liked. They ate a little and left a lot of what they ordered. The bill was 1,400 rupees. The rich woman gave the waiter 1,500 and asked him to keep the change. This incident might have seemed quite normal to the rich woman, but would have been very painful to the poor egg seller. Humanity Vs Lifestyle!!!
The point is: Humanity Vs Lifestyle
Why do we show power when we want to impress someone and seldom to the needy? The Facebook member adds that his father used to buy simple goods from poor people at high prices, even though he did not need them. Sometimes he even used to pay extra for them. Concerned by this act, one day he asked his father why did he do so? The father replied, “It is a charity wrapped with dignity, my son.”
