We at storyofsouls.com take pride in introducing the story Jyotsna ex HT Media, a courageous woman who has defied all odds in life as well as defied all norms that society at large has about women.
Statements that imply that a woman cannot reach higher rungs of the ladder in the corporate world as well as the so-called glass-ceiling that cannot be shattered, have all been broken and shattered as she has bagged these positions at a young age for HT Media.
In a world that constantly defines women as mere objects of desire, and beauty is the only secret to a woman’s success, and where a woman’s intelligence is constantly undermined. We have one such woman who has proudly disowned these judgements and has carved a niche for herself.
Meet Jyotsna Tyagi
The ex-AVP of HT Media Ltd. The youngest Indian achiever under 35 for the Year awarded by The Indian Achiever’s Cub. To fuel her passion she is also a certified sailor, and above all, a non-conformist. Time and again she has proved that she is an outlier. She has come out shining amidst all hurdles that life has thrown her way with bravery, wisdom, willpower, resilience and determination.
“You’re braver than you believe and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”
Indeed, she has earned several achievements at a young age. But, was this easy-busy lemon squeezy stuff for her? Of course not, so, how has been her journey and what are her philanthropy thoughts. The story behind this persona and her charming million-dollar smile despite all odds is never spoken about. Another aspect to ponder over is, does she even consider these achievements as success or all these are just worldly affairs for her?
Early life
An adventure-driven young girl with a twinkle in her eyes being, ambition in her tender heart is Jyotsna Tyagi. With a desire to explore everything from worldly travels, books, and human behaviour, she has always derived success. She has been a gutsy, carefree, modern, yet soft, intelligent and emotional being. We can sum it up as a happy girl with all the laughter in her heart but still something yet to be discovered for her wandering heart. While being in her teens, she has attained much attention from boys of her age. She was indeed the class-apart from other girls, sheer coz of her happy yet bold attitude. Mostly the girl who was on the debate teams, trivia, basketball team, spelling bees and mathletes
Professionally
Jyotsna has been the youngest Business head for the largest international
luxury brands in India and Australia – GUCCI, Giuseppe Zanotti, Louis Vuitton and Dunhill. A business leader with an acumen towards digital marketing & strategic partnerships. Also, the youngest AVP at HT Media to manage the largest Media summits such as HT LEADERSHIP SUMMIT which is the #1 awarded intellectual property event in the Indian leadership summit landscape.
With a cross-cultural work ethos, paralleled by her analytical and organizational skills Jyotsna has nailed it all. With her 15 years of experience, she leads her career with grace and glory. Something that is worth admiring is her humble and low-profile nature that just amuse as you converse with her.
Love for languages
Truly a learner at heart, Jyotsna is fluent in eight different languages. French, Italian, Nepali, Arabic, Hindi, English, and two local Indian languages i.e Punjabi and Marwari. Isn’t she is a personality with diverse aspects?
As we were eager to know how she picked up all of these languages as a Polyglot, she simply replies with, “I grew up in 2 different countries and 12 cities, when in Rome, be a Roman, and that’s how I picked up these languages along my way, it’s the love for different languages and cultures that has to lead me to a nomadic lifestyle I now lead.” exclaims Jyotsna.
Jyotsna Tyagi – A Certified Sailor she is!
Honestly speaking, how many women certified sailors have we met? Indeed a rare case isn’t it. That’s yet another trait we adore about her! Yes, she goes for these Yacht races, they are called Regattas. Moreover, she sails professionally for these Regattas. Also, she is a winner of the Axis Bank CEOs Sailing cup 2018 and 2019 along with her team, while being at HT Media.
With much admiration, we ask her how do you manage to do all such things and she replied
“There is no remote control in life, you have to get up to make it better.”
Such wise words pour hearts with so much inspiration! Indeed, she has travelled a long way. What we forget is the struggles of those dark moments that she may have also perhaps seen along the way? When she may have stood tall with courage, where there were times when she might have to rise from ashes or start at square one?
A Turning Point
Well absolutely yes! It was the 19th of June 2019 when she got to know all about her dreaded tumour. She suffered from a benign tumour( non-cancerous). The following day she had an MRI, while the doctor said all it needed was surgical removal. It was after a month in July 2019 that it was discovered that the tumour was yet to completely disappear, for which she has to undergo radiation surgery – SRS.
Life changed for her, her perspective towards life change. An upside-down twist came to her life. She started valuing herself more, cherishing her loved ones, even more. Begin to live a holistically healthy lifestyle – mind, body and soul. She believes that self-belief is the most powerful asset one can have, even more than any wealth or glory, and also asserts that going after ambitions, passions, academic and professional pursuits in life were the smartest decisions she ever made.
She realised when you are at a stage when you’re a person of certain influence to others, you must work towards things that can make an impact in reality.
That is how her skincare label The Marshmallow Skin was born – for ultra-sensitive skincare, especially for chemically treated skin and survivors like herself. In her own words “ The Marshmallow Skin is my first love outside of human race, it is the closest thing to my heart and my skin. The skincare brand is Sustainable, Conscious, Ethical, Non-Binary Skincare handmade in SMALL BATCHES
Social causes are closest to her heart
Hence she recalls The happiest people I know are those who lose themselves in the service of others.
Jyotsna has been associated with several philanthropic programs. First is women empowerment. As part of her Tihar Jail Pearl Academy Fashion project, she has been very much involved in setting up a laboratory for the women inmates as well as guide them towards vocational programs in sewing and stitching, for the life beyond the bars.
Jyotsna is also associated with the Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, she counsels the community of survivors who are ailing and loves to meet their families and caretakers.
We are talking of a vibrant and yet so courageous woman Jyotsna Tyagi , who completed her education at the Melbourne Business School in Finance and strongly believes that one of the toolkits on the journey to success is education and is a firm believer in constant upskilling. She has also taken up executive programs at The Wharton School in Digital Marketing & Analytics, Harvard Business School in Entrepreneurship in Emerging Economies and Leadership Program at INSEAD
Jyotsna Tyagi- The Indian Achiever’s Club – Under 35
“Nothing is impossible if you dare to pursue it.”
Jyotsna has achieved all these under the age of 35. It’s not an easy task to achieve a lot in less age. But she succeeded in becoming the youngest achiever despite all odds.
Summing up her story isn’t easy
When you look at a person, remember that everyone has a unique journey and a story that makes them who they are. It’s the rising up from the ashes like a Phoenix that takes courage.
Message from the Story creator
Jyotsna’s inspiring chapters of life bring in a lot of positive vibes. The way she has been so positive in her life makes us think, why we can’t we all deal with life with a little twinkle in our eyes and bravery? She dares to come out and share her experiences like stripes earned, with all of us so candidly. This makes me feel proud to write about her.
Although, what triggered me the most is her courageous attitude and the power to achieve her goals. While listening to her interview I went through her words when she said, “ Get me rid of this tumour I have to go to INSEAD in August”. Frankly speaking, if I would’ve been in her place, I would have panicked the most.
Bow to her courage
After all the life-changing situations, Jyotsna went on showing great courage. Found her place in the Indian Achiever’s Club under 35. Today, she is one of the youngest business leaders, Moreover, she is forging a league of her own not forgetting that we rise by lifting others.
We conclude this column in her words- “ All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them. You are braver than you believe. Stronger than you think, and twice as beautiful as you’ve ever imagined.”
Truly, you are an inspiration Jyotsna. Keep inspiring our readers @storyofsouls.com. Keep rising, keep shinning, Jyotsna.
