There’s a Full Moon night. The first of the year. Spiritually inclined friends and those into lunar worship tell me that riding its magnificent chariot, drawn by ten beautiful white horses, the Full Moon in all its splendor and glory will appear. I should join them in celebrating the Full Moon. Sing, dance, and meditate. I have been politely resisting them for years. I believe meditation is a focused and mindful science. Not about music, song, and dance with the idea of spreading love and happiness.
The Hippies of Goa and the ochre-wearing robe disciples of Bhagwan Rajneesh in Poona in the 1970s did all that. But theirs was a culture of drugs and sex. Like a pathway to self-destruction more than a connection to your soul. I like to hear people chanting, though. It is an ancient religious meditative practice that calms the mind and soul. I don’t do it myself but friends who chant tell me it is very soothing. It connects one to the basic rhythms of Life and the Universe. What I intend to do tonight is take a Full Moon bath under the stars. Sitting by myself and just being. Which means feeling one with the Universe, happy and at peace.
