Inspiring Story of Sowmya Iyer
Meet Ms. Sowmya Iyer, Founder & CEO at Clarity Communication. Reading her from inspiring Story Sowmya Iyer will woo those who want to start their success but are stuck due to barriers of the mind. She rebelled with the life that was destined for her, to change her fate. From this, we can learn that our fate is in our hands. We can change our destiny for the better. We just need to be bold and listen to our inner voice, as Sowmya did.
Growing up, Sowmya was a shy girl. People didn’t have faith in her. She was not supposed to achieve much in her life as per everyone’s opinion. She was dependent and directionless. But her hard-working attitude and rebellious personality helped her face whatever problems life served her.
Everyone is conditioned in certain ways. Sowmya never followed the crowd. A lady who wanted to walk on the path that is self-made. She trusted her gut feeling and resolved to go against society’s pre-requisites. It was her determined decision to not marry. A society never accepts a single woman. She gave a who cares attitude to those that opposed her decision. It was her life and didn’t want the societal norms to dictate how to live. Sowmya managed to convince her parents that it was best for her this way.
As a single woman, Iyer had to brave the waters not only at a personal level but also at a professional level. Her humble beginnings were as a consultant, selling greeting cards to corporate offices. Later ventured into business, starting a placement agency. Yet she kept feeling that something was amiss. Iyer was living in Delhi with her parents at that time when her father planned to shift to Bengaluru in 2000.
While job hunting, Sowmya met her college senior who used to also be her neighbour in Delhi. She was looking for someone to join her PR firm. Sowmya did not know anything about Public Relations, nor did she have any educational qualifications to match this field. Iyer graduated in Political Science (Hons) from Miranda House, Delhi University in 1994. Also her masters in the same field, Further, pursued Sales and Marketing Management. Learning and working aimlessly until she could find her calling. In Bengaluru when Sowmya got the opportunity to work for senior in the PR industry, she finally found her interest. Grabbing this opportunity became a turning point in life. Under the guidance of her senior, Sowmya began making a niche for herself in a new field, paving her way, learning the nitty-gritty of Public Relations. From then on, there was no looking back.
She believes that rather than running behind money, one should do the best at the job at hand to achieve success. She also believes in doing good for others. In the past, she has worked for Child Relief & You, an independent charity dedicated to the cause of deprived Indian children. Bringing the previous experiences from the experiences she got from her previous jobs. Further, incorporated them into the firm business module. Sowmya started her own PR firm Clarity Communication four years ago, in 2016.
Taking not only the positives from her previous jobs but also the negatives. Iyer believes in an employee-friendly culture, gives them a conducive environment to work and freedom to express their opinions. But she is equally a hard taskmaster. Iyer advises her colleagues to not be afraid of committing mistakes but admit them on time and learn from them to better themselves. Sowmya doesn’t just preach this but also practices this herself. Admitting that everyone including her makes mistakes in life. But that shouldn’t be the criteria for judging someone. People working for her and with her admire her and love to work with her enthusiastically.
Clarity Communication has been established by Sowmya with an aim in mind to improve the quality of PR. She has around 20 years of experience in this field, handling a diverse range of clientele from lifestyle, real estate to agrochemicals, etc. The objective was to deliver the best and most feasible partner media coverage possible with efficient communication and on-time delivery. The determination was to bridge the huge gap in the PR industry by being transparent while engaging with her clients. Using the handholding method to keep the client’s needs at the forefront. Put the best efforts to be there for clients at every step of PR. Sowmya tells her team to be proactive and creative. This is the reason that within a few years her company Clarity Communication has come a long way in gaining success.
What we can take from Inspiring Story Sowmya Iyer, is that we must not give in to circumstances in our lives. Life taught her a lot of lessons and she has fought against all odds to achieve success. From drifting aimlessly to being goal-oriented, she has come a far way. She can turn the negativity of people who tell her she cannot do certain things into the positivity of her achievements. She wishes to tell everyone to fight for our rights and freedom of choice and not to accept anything complacently as fate. If we have even the slightest of a chance to change our nemesis, we should grab it and not look back. She states boldly that “You have to fight against what God has also given you”.
Sowmya says that there are no short cuts in life. Sometimes one gets the desired results, sometimes not. To pursue one’s dreams, self-persuasion is important. Everyone has their low moments. But she takes each day as it comes and believes that everything will work for its best. Sowmya Iyer is a very positive person and looks at problems of life as a lesson to learn from than a way to give up. She also does Pranayama daily to keep her mind calm.
