Deepika Venkatesh became a sustainable educator after quitting Deloitte. In this article, she explains what sustainable education is. How is it possible to change the world with this thought process!
Deepika believes firmly in the saying that “Be the change you wish to see in the world”? She is a subject lead and senior school educator, who wants her learners to always remember two simple things:
a) Regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or culture, always carry a backpack full of eagerness to learn.
As a result, we shall all grow up to be pillars of society.
b) Keep in mind that it is not our place to change others; all you have to do is show the world the change you want to see in yourself; change begins inside. Kindness is important!
If they want to be a teacher or professor, Deepika advises learners to become educators. She explains that this is because an educator’s potential to influence is greater. She also encourages her students to create their own concepts and learnings books.
Deepika Venkatesh explains what sustainable education is with her own simple story
Deepika claims she was a typical child who crawled and walked a lot and received her master’s degree in finance unsure of what she wanted to do with her life. But she had a strong desire to make a difference.
Deepika was given a position as an Assistant Professor at the same institution after completing her master’s degree, and it was then that she realized the power of education.
Her life was turned around by demonstrating a whole different outlook on schooling.
Deepika realized one day that there is a small gap between her schooling and the sophisticated environment she lives in.
That’s when she decided to take a job offer from a company.
Deepika says, “Everyone around me, including my recruiters, questioned my choice to quit this prominent sector and shift to something entirely different. Well, I had a concept in my head that I hoped would work. That notion in my head was to get practical world exposure onto the plates of students.
I abandoned my work after a couple of years and promised myself that I would join a school as a senior school teacher to make a difference.
Deepika’s journey as a sustainable educator
Deepika began her profession as a sustainable educator after quitting Deloitte. She worked at Deloitte as a Senior Risk Analyst. Deepika then entered the field of education with the goal of promoting long-term learning. She began to take notes and study. Her remarks centered on one similar theme: long-term education and gradual learning. Deepika used her little leisure time after work to study and improve her skills. National Geographic, Google, Apple, UNESCO MGIEP, and other organizations provided her with opportunities to learn and gain certificates.
Along with the things I teach, she began empowering learners with a curation of strategies and resources on knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes. Deepika did so in order to solve the world’s interrelated global concerns, including climate change, environmental degradation, poverty, inequality, and access to an excellent education.
Deepika is presently employed as a topic lead and senior school teacher at a Bengaluru-based international school. She is a CAS coordinator for IB diploma students and oversees topics such as Business Studies and Commerce for both international and national curricula.
Deepika feels that rather than providing a response script for a scorecard, her education should allow students to unearth the real world’s complicated state of affairs. She says, “Education must cause a marked change and allow intelligence to make informed decisions. All these learnings increased my zeal towards sustainable development and now, I help at a couple of non-governmental organizations to make a better world.”
