After the tales of horror coming from Uttar Pradesh, here’s one story of human interest that is as heartwarming as it is inspiring. The details are sketchy. But I gather that a couple in Prayagraj took time out of their wedding reception to rush and donate blood and save the life of a young girl who no donor was willing to help because she was “someone else’s child”.
The narrator of this cheering incident is a UP cop called Ashish Mishra. He started a ‘Police Mitra’ initiative in 2017 for this purpose – to connect blood donors with people in need. This time it didn’t work. The couple remains unnamed. But they came to know of the young girl’s urgent requirement in the midst of their celebrations and without hesitation, left the reception to donate blood and save her life.
Mishra, who is social media savvy, thanked the couple in a post on Twitter. The picture showed the newlyweds in their wedding finery still donating blood. It went viral and millions of netizens lauded their selfless act. “My India is great,” tweeted Mishra. I’ll say it is the people that make a country. And not all, but some like this couple are great. I wish them many happy years of togetherness.
