Arnold Schwarzenegger is someone I admire. He was a huge source of inspiration for boys my age. Because of him, every boy went to the gym. Arnie is old and grizzled today, having turned 76 on Sunday.
But he still delivers a big wallop when giving a positive and motivating sermon to millions of admirers through a free daily newsletter he sends by email called ‘Arnold’s Pump Club’. Every morning, I read it. It’s like taking a vitamin E supplement. Meaning Enthusiasm. People inquired as to what he wanted for his birthday.
“Help me convince everyone they’re worth the effort it takes to be healthy and fit,” Arnie replied in his newsletter.
What are your options? Today, I’m going to work out or go for a stroll. Bring a friend or a family member. Next, I’d like to persuade everyone to log out more frequently. Don’t look at your phone throughout your workout. Don’t check your phone at family dinners. When you’re at a meeting, don’t check your phone. Don’t berate yourself the next time you notice you’re idly scrolling through social media.
Instead, if you find yourself being lured into social media, perform 10 squats or push-ups. If you’re at an office and worried about looking strange, pretend Arnold advised you to do it. We are not designed to be connected every second of every day. Make time for yourself to unplug and live in the now. Get going because you are valuable. Log out of social media whenever possible since it isn’t worth it. And do your push-ups or squats anytime you find yourself scrolling and scrolling. It’s a present for my birthday!”
