If I had that kind of money and the necessary influence, I would take the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and its chairperson, Bollywood poet, writer, lyricist, and screenwriter
Prasoon Joshi, to Court. And I would implore their respected and learned Lordships to watch Akshay Kumar’s satirical courtroom comedy-drama OMG2 that releases today with open minds and
honest hearts and strike down the ridiculously harsh and unfair ‘A’ certificate it has been arbitrarily given. Not only would I urge the Court to declare the film fit for U/A viewing, but also impress
upon the state to make OMG2 tax-free. The film is hugely entertaining. With utmost sensitivity, and the
a perfect blend of mythology, religion, and humor, it delivers a powerful and much-needed social message on the importance and necessity of sex education in our schools. All this is done in the midst of some hilariously tense courtroom sequences. The film imparts a valuable lesson that we would be blind not to accept is the need of the hour. It’s a poignant story set in a small town but of a realistic world that will especially resonate strongly with the lesser worldly audiences in Tier 2 and 3 cities. The film is a
cinematic treat but without deviating from the core theme. OMG 2 is brave yet poetic; strong but delicate. It is an eye-opener that every family must watch. And especially teenagers on the threshold of life in their final and formative years in school. But look what the spoilsport CBFC has gone and done. Myopically and
regressively it has inflicted over two dozen cuts in OMG2 and then given it an ‘A’ certificate. Cruelly, a bold, progressive, and heartwarming film on the importance of sex education in schools is being shown to adults in our society only who are certainly not lacking or in need of sex education having been there and done it all. This is taking India back to the Dark Ages.
