And I, drearily hanging precariously
onto a memory, one, regrettably, I had kept found
reprehensible, praying to still
the pain within,
she,
having fallen out of god’s grace, an etching
of a crystalline tear wept within
a loved one’s
eyes…
Am I to weep as had she, interwoven as we had become, clinging
onto a singular thread, frightened i ever we had let go,
we would never again find what was left
of ourselves…
Soften, velvet to the touch, the sweet caress of her kiss.
An effervescent fragrance. To have envisioned
she as an allurement.
My scarlet red
rose.
Were she to wither, would lead to my detriment.
Was she to have been barely above a whisper, the image revealed
deeply etched into one’s tombstone. Was she
meant to have been a cherished
remembrance,
whose eyes were laden with tears. I feel it may have been
her epitaph, the tears she had wept. An image
of a word she could no longer
speak.
So much more than silence, the sound I may have heard.
What may have been the beginning
of an ending…
Sentences and paragraphs
which will no longer
appear.
Her eyes, to have remembered the depth of sadness within them.
I cannot begin to fathom the sorrow
nor the despair…
How was one to have comforted her, referring to the difficulties
of having done so, whilst seeking the words
she sought to
hear.
How does one soothe one as fair as she.
Were a rose, a beatific, flowering
growth whose bloom opened
to the morning’s
dawn.
I could not cry the tears for her to stay away her pain, after
having wept too many of them…
One by one, as a rose’s petal,
they fell silently to
the ground.
