Heart-warming dog story
Mark Ferrell, an Oklahoma vet, provides the answer. He was called to examine a 13-year-old Irish Setter. The dog’s family, a man, his wife, and their six-year-old son. They all observe in silence expecting a miracle to happen. The dog was dying of cancer. The vet told the family he could not do anything for him. With a lump in his throat, he offers to do the euthanasia procedure at home.
Those last moments
The boy went quiet and petted the dog for the last time. The vet wondered if he understood what was going on. In a few minutes, the dog fell asleep peacefully, never to wake up. The boy seemed to accept its transition without difficulty. The adults sat silently for a moment wondering why a dog’s life is shorter than a human being.
What Boy explains
The boy said, “I know why.” And what he said next was the most heartwarming explanation the vet ever hears. The moment changed his way of seeing life. The boy said, “People come into the world to learn to live a good life, like loving others and being a nice person. Well, as dogs are born knowing how to do all this, they don’t have to stay as long as we do.”
The moral of the story is
If a dog happens to be your teacher. You’d learn that when your loved ones come home, always run to say hello. Never pass up an opportunity to go for a walk. Upgrade your attention and let people touch you. Avoid biting when just a growl would do. When you’re happy, dance and wag your entire body. When someone has a bad day, stay silent, sit close and gently make them feel like you’re there…
