“Determine that the thing can and shall be done and then…… find the way”
-Abraham Lincoln
Our struggles define us. Leaders who inspire, who take the nation ahead. Here’s a presentation of the journey of Rohit Anotra wheelchair cricketer from pain to happiness.
Rohit, like any other kid, was born to a happy family. Who knew this toddler on the streets of Pathankot would install life into such magnificent words, like the struggle for excellence? The initial five years of Rohit’s life were as wonderful as that of any Indian toddler, but God had something else planned for him. Rohit met with a fierce accident at the tender age of five years and lost his leg.
Problems test us, but such accidents like this shatter our hearts. Accidents like this are the dead ends of life. They leave us on the edge of the cliff, the only option being to jump off. But it’s the hope that matters. Hope for a wonderful ending- a cherished one. Jumping off the same cliff has two aspects- to jump off in arms of death [THE HOPELESS ASPECT] or to jump with the will power of one last attempt to persevere [THE HOPEFUL ONE].
Rohit was the hopeful one. With rock-like will power and incomparable courage, Rohit just refused to give up! Under the blessings, guidance and support of his parents, he completed his studies. His parents also fought against each of those negativity beams that came to touch their son. Rohit also successfully completed his 12th in 2012.
Rohit Anotra was admitted to VRTC Ludhiana [Vocational Rehabilitation centre] for computer training in 2015. He had got training in the computer by 2016, after which he moved to Chandigarh.
Until then, life became a challenge for Rohit. Cricket a passion for him since childhood. Unfortunately, the accident snatched away that pleasure from him. But God has been testing and there came an opportunity phase. At Chandigarh, Rohit met some children playing cricket in a wheelchair. He also remembered his childhood love for cricket and the desire to pursue his interests poured into his mind from every side. It wasn’t much after that day.
Rohit Anotra joined those children and began practising his favorite sport in his own splendid way. As he was determined to chase his dreams, he kept adding feathers to his cap – First he played at the Punjab Vs UP, that was his first match played under Punjab Wheelchair Sports Society. He has also played 8 matches in National team by the name of National Wheelchair Cricket. His hard work finally paid off when he got selected for the international wheelchair cricket matches. He played his first international match in Malaysia in 2017. Against India Vs Pakistan he scored 85 runs in 20-20 match. He played these matches under Wheelchair Cricket India Association. For this match, he became the man of the match. Also, he became the man of the series for this tournament.
And now came the phase of achievements. Rohit took part in the first cricket tournament of his cricket career in 2017. Rohit miraculously excelled in cricket practices. Hence played his first tournament within a year of training. Rohit also has 5 Half-centuries, 3 Man of the Match and one Man of the Series in national tournaments to his credit.
Soon after, the Indian cricket team sees the debut of a valiant fighter. The one who made all his struggles his stepping stones to success. Rohit also played matches against Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan teams. International games were no luxurious affair for Rohit. The international crowd witnessed the birth of a legendary cricketer, who stunned everyone with his charming five half-centuries, three Man Of the Match and one Man Of the Series.
Rohit Anotra wheelchair cricketer, courageously fighting against the challenges that God poses before him. Rohit certainly has his share of problems. Also, the spirit to move against the flow of water, what made him the charismatic personality that we are reading about. He would like to specially mention Mr Sqdn Leader Abhay Pratap Singh, who is the CEO of WheelChair Cricket Indian Team.
While the Rohit Anotra wheelchair cricketer is a lesson for each one of us, it has an underlying message for the youth. Youth today cannot manage themselves because of depressions, and selfish ambitions. We have Rohit, who is an admirable personality. A train of shocks at such a tender age of five can make or breaking us.
But Rohit fought against his odds to achieve his dreams. That’s the amount of hard work we ought to put in for our desires and dreams!!!
“Let the candle of your enrichment
Make the negativity starve,
Into darker mines, we move
For the shiny diamonds, we carve”.
